This is the title of the book that Avirex will publish in September 2006.
Intended for Avirex retailers and available on request, the book comes in only 5000 copies and bears witness to Avirex's passion for authentic wear, the mythic pilot leather jacket and military-style clothing they have been manufacturing for over sixty years. The publication will give lasting fame to the history of items now proposed in an edition for daily wear but also manufactured in the version Replica, a precise reproduction of the original ones.
The book's wide range of models couldn't but include classic A2, G1, and B3 whose manufacturing details and evolution "Avirex" fully illustrates, besides narrating the events that turned a personal passion into a cult brand.
Back in 1942, a small Long Island-based workshop was granted the first exclusive licence to manuacture the leather jackets labelled ‘Avirex' with which it supplied the U. S. Air Force for decades. It took over thirty years before Mr. Jeff Clyman, the son of a pilot in World War II and a lover of planes and air jackets, could trace the workshop thanks to the information on the label inside the jacket that his father had given him.
The young New York lawyer and his partner,
Mr. Marchese, took over the small firm and turned Avirex into a brand.
The firm soon resumed the production of the famous Bombers worn by pilots during World War II, and, spurred by their enthusiasm, the two partners decided to try their luck on the success of these items on the market of everyday wear. In the span of a few years the demand for air jackets increased considerably, and the firm started to export to Japan and Europe.
World-renowned Avirex resumed the manufacture of leather jackets for the U. S. Army, which achieved the climax of success and popularity in the 1980's due to the cinema and their fidelity to the original models. The firm has recently started the production of various garments such as the mythic trousers, Chinos, initially manufactured for military use.
In 2001 Avirex S.p.a. was established to control and develop the European market, under the management of Alfredo Cionti. Today Avirex keeps manufacturing, promoting and distributing the brand's products to accomplish their original mission: to devote the know how they have acquired over the years to high quality items in compliance with the standards of the U. S. Air Force.
A brand whose style, fidelity to original models, and tradition are merged with modern convenience and functionality.
