DESIGNWORKS was estabilished in London in 1995. Its concept is “New British Style”, elegantly blending new Brit sensibilities and the items brashed up in tradition. Its items are wearable on both formal and informal occasions. Ever since its arrival the label has continued to grow in both size and stature and now boasts stores in every major city in Japan, as well as the addition of a womenswear collection. Their flagship London store based in the fashionable Soho area of London adds modernism to this traditional area of town. Its muted pinks, green, red and blue colour scheme, together with different tones of brown and the beautiful grey and blue tiled walls are the talking point of the striking interiors. Other features are the futuristic till point which also doubles up as a display for accessories and the windows with plexiglass cabinets and wooden stools. The shop originally stocked the Designworks label, aimed at the customer who is looking to move on from “high street style” and aims to strike a balance between innovative design and tradition. Designworks has also extended its designer offering and for S/S 08 will be a multi label store, selling collections from Emanuel Ungaro, Santacroce, Kohzo Denim, Veronique Branquinho, as well as exclusive collaborations with both new and estabilished designers. Designworks is a perfect example of a concept store that works, with a carefully considered harmony between the interior, the staff and the products that appears effortless and inviting.
