The American brand has since 1986 been a trend-setter in the history of casual wear, with soft-feeling knits and a unique palette of colours. The brand is entirely devoted to women who are fond of an informal lifestyle, and has the power to enhance a woman’s body with class and simplicity. The idea was sparked off when Michael Cohen – the brand’s founder – met an artist selling hand-decorated T-shirts on Manhattan Beach. Over the years the original inspiration led to further developments: from unisex items - shirts in bright colours and with style details drawing on French graphics – Michael shifted to the creation of women’s lines, and, as a result, the small family-run firm grew in size and expanded from South California to the whole of the USA. Michael Stars – a name which can’t but be synonymous with success – became renowned as a brand of excellence in the production of high quality knitwear. After the 2001 line ‘Maternitees’ for expectant mothers and the 2006 ‘Cashmere’ collection, in 2007 Michael Stars launched his clothes collection ‘Dresses’. Each season the brand presents over two hundred models in thirty different colours to gratify the wishes and satisfy the needs of modern women attracted to casual fashion. If Hollywood stars like Jennifer Garner, Jessica Biel and Scarlet Johansson are so fond of Michael Stars, it is merely because they cannot renounce the brand’s touch of simplicity and style. Even TV costume designers frequently choose Michael Stars’ clothing for serials like Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy or Ugly Betty, in which actresses often wear the stylist’s creations. Since 2000 lots of retail shops have been opened in the USA (Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Manhattan Beach etc) and the brand will soon be distributed also on the Italian market.
