Per un classico che continua a rinnovarsi.
John Smedley’s seventy-five-year experience in the use of valuable Sea Island cotton has earned the firm a reputation as leading manufacturers of high-quality knitwear. Very few firms in the world can process the fibre and enhance its qualities, its length and thinness in particular. Originally farmed on the coasts of Georgia, Sea Island cotton is delicately spun into yarn following complex techniques; it is then dyed before going through 35 different processing operations that lead to the finished product. For the AW season 2008-2009 John Smedley proposes a renewed, completely seamless edition of its classic line of knitwear, ‘John Smedley ONE’. Since it was launched in 2006, the line has been manufactured by a special technique which, while leading to an impeccable fit of the items, creates a perfect silhouette, as if each garment were ‘sculpted’ on the body by just one very light cotton thread. Outside Japan, John Smedley are the only manufacturers who know the secret of such a technique with such a lightweight quality. As next Winter season approaches, John Smedley propose new accessories, such as knitted scarves, gloves and hats in brilliant colours and patterns that match the knitwear collections. While men’s classic and preppy overtones are matched to smart suits, women’s retro-taste long gloves recall the glamour of the ‘40s, whereas diamond, and Prince of Wales check patterns are reminiscent of the warm college style of the Ivy League.
John Smedley, a classic that keeps renewing itself.
