Earth and Iron
Nata a Viareggio, l’artista ha frequentato l’Atelier di Pittura e Scultura con la cartapesta a Firenze, sotto il Prof. Agostino Dessì e la Scuola d’Arte Leonardo a Prato, dove tuttora lavora nel suo studio. La Cecchi realizza le sue opere usando diversi materiali come gesso, stucco, malte, cartapesta, garza, ferro, plexiglass sui quali interviene con colori acrilici, terre, pigmenti e ossidi. A partire dal 1998 l’artista ha esposto in numerose mostre, sia in Italia che all’estero (Germania, Giappone e Stai Uniti). La cauta riflessione artistica della pittrice toscana si trasmette alla sostanza cromatica della sua pittura astratta, conferendole vita e calore. Il gesto pittorico diviene intima scrittura poetica che scaturisce masse luminescenti da blocchi scuri, come corpi celesti incastonati in un vuoto immobile. Superfici materiche corrugate, interrotte da segni di colore, trasmutano gli elementi: il ferro sotto la sapiente mano di Lucia Cecchi diventa vuoto cosmico, il plexiglass si coniuga con luminosità smaltate, la cartapesta diviene intonaco corroso e memoria di una vita perduta. Come scrive Paolo Levi, “Lucia Cecchi opera con fare virtuoso, approdando a un informale puro e caldo che si coniuga con l’espressionismo astratto, dove il segno è sempre allusivo; dove le cancellazioni sembrano essere operate dalla mano del tempo; dove il mistero si concretizza sovente in una sagoma cerchiata o sferica. L’attrattiva del suo lavoro sta dunque in questo suo procedere per interrogazioni, da questo confrontarsi con le densità della materia sottraendola alla sua stessa natura per ricrearla in un’invenzione soggettiva, in un oggetto eloquente, in una struttura linguistica perfettamente coerente e significante.”.
Lucia Cecchi’s personal exhibition “Earth and Iron” was held at Lazzari Space from January 22nd to February 28th 2010. Born at Viareggio, the artist attended the Florence-based papier-maché “Atelier di Pittura e Scultura”, under the guidance of Prof. Agostino Dessì, and the Prato-located “Scuola d’Arte Leonardo” where she still works. Lucia Cecchi realises her works in different materials like gesso, stucco, plasters, papier-maché, gauze, iron, and plexiglas, which she treats with acrylic colours, earths, pigments, and oxides. The artist has since 1998 exhibited her works in countless events both in Italy and abroad (Germany, Japan, the USA). The Tuscan painter’s tentative artistic reflection is expressed through colours that give her abstract painting life and warmth. Her pictorial gesture or rather, her intimate poetic writing, makes glowing masses spring from dark blocks, like heavenly bodies set in the motionless void. Corrugated matter surfaces, interrupted by colour strokes transform the elements: through Lucia Cecchi’s skilful hand, iron becomes cosmic void, plexiglas combines with luminous enamels, papier-maché becomes worn out plaster, the memory of a lost life. As Paolo Levi writes: ”Through ever allusive strokes Lucia Cecchi’s skilled works bear the marks of a pure, warm informal style combined with abstract expressionism, with deletions that seem to be made by the hand of time; works whose sense of mystery is achieved through circles or spherical forms. Her works’ allure lies in their progress through endless questioning, in her tackling the density of matter by overcoming its very nature, to recreate it in a subjective invention, an eloquent object, a perfectly coherent and meaningful linguistic structure.
