Flash+Bistroteque

Restaurant-2Flash è il nuovo progetto di Pablo Flack, che nel 2004 ha fondato  Bistrotheque con David Waddington.
Flash è il progetto che fa seguito a “The Reindeer” e rappresenta il loro secondo ristorante temporaneo. L’idea per Flash è venuta l’ultima notte del loro ristorante Shoreditch di enorme successo, “The Reindeer”, che nel 2006 funzionava come ristorante pop-up e luogo di ritrovo sul tema del Natale, completamente prenotato con settimane di anticipo.Flack e Waddington sono stati contattati dalla Royal Academy per la creazione di un ristorante per la GSK Contemporary ( una stagione eclettica con tre mesi di mostre e eventi). Concettualmente il ristorante diventerà un ambiente dentro all’ambiente, ma anche una installazione dentro a una mostra d’arte, grazie all’approccio collaborativo che Pablo ha scelto. Pablo ha lavorato con David Kohn ( architetto progettista alla Gagosian Gallery di King’s Cross) sulla struttura temporanea, ottenuta mediante i contenitori per lo stoccaggio di opere d’arte che sarà usata per esporre opere di artisti emergenti come Simon Popper e Alexis Teplin. L’illustratore Will Broome si è occupato della porcellana prodotta dalla Wedgwood ( vedi le foto dei piatti in bianco e nero), e il designer Giles ha creato, apposta per il sito, un enorme lampadario di cristallo Swarovski da centro. Se volete vedere con i vostri occhi vi consiglio di far presto, poiché questa straordinaria sala da pranzo nel cuore di Londra, piena del brusio di gente che conversa, chiude il 19 gennaio 2009. Non c’è motivo di preoccuparsi comunque, poiché la Bistrotheque non scomparirà tanto presto.

Flash is the new project from Pablo Flack, who, with David Waddington established Bistrotheque in 2004. Flash is the follow up project to “The Reindeer” and represents their second temporary restaurant. The idea for Flash came on the last night of their hugely successful Shoreditch restaurant “The Reindeer”, which functioned as a pop-up Christmas-themed restaurant & venue in 2006, and was fully booked weeks in advance. The duo were approached by the Royal Academy to create a restaurant for GSK Contemporary (an eclectic three-month season of exhibitions and events). Conceptually, the restaurant will become a room within a room, but also an installation within an art exhibition, thanks to the collaborative approach that Pablo has taken. Pablo worked on the temporary structure, created from art storage boxes, with David Kohn (project architect on the Gagosian Gallery in King’s Cross) which will be used to display works by up and coming artists like Simon Popper and Alexis Teplin. Illustrator Will Broome has taken care of the china, produced by Wedgwood, and designer Giles has created a huge Swarovski crystal centre-piece chandelier specifically for the site. But if you want a piece of the cake you’d better be fast as this cool and buzzy dining room in the heart of London is closing on January 19th ’09.No need to worry as Bistroteque, on the other hand, won’t be disappearing anytime soon!
