The Preppy Lifestyle: The Blazer

Nel 1818 nasce il primo emporio Brooks Brothers, e il brand si afferma presto come icona della tradizione e, al tempo stesso, anticipatore di bisogni e di stili della società americana, con proposte che spaziano dagli abiti eleganti, alle uniformi per l’esercito e alle linee casual. Dagli anni ‘80 l’azienda rappresenta il vero “faro” del mondo preppy in grado di proporre un total look dal sapore genuinamente made in USA. Nel 2010 Brooks Brothers ha pubblicato un’edizione limitata del celebre True Prep, firmata da Lisa Birnbach, autrice della guida ufficiale dei preppy agli inizi degli anni ’80. La giacca costituisce la colonna portante dell’intero guardaroba preppy. Dominatore incontrasto è in particolare il blazer blu, proposto principalmente in lana e con bottoni dorati che riprendono, in basso rilievo, l’insegna dei reali inglesi. Essa viene proposta nella variante a doppio petto, dotata di una vestibilità ampia, modello appartenente alla Brooks Brothers Country Club Collection; la giacca riprende direttamente lo stile originale americano del marchi, combinando comfort e materiali pregiati (lane Loro Piana) e si adatta perfettamente sia al business che alle giornate trascorse al Club. La giacca a tre bottoni viene scelta in situazioni meno formali. Dotato di una vestibilità regolare, è proposta in numerose varianti di tessuto: dal classico blazer blu in lana (Brooks Brothers) alle più leggere giacche in seersucker e cotone poplin, color khaki e verde oliva.

The first Brooks Brothers store was established in 1818 and the brand soon became renowned as an icon of tradition, at the same time an anticipator of needs and styles in American society with proposals ranging from smart clothing, to army uniforms and casual lines. Since the Eighties the Firm has represented a benchmark for the preppy world and has been able to propose a genuine ‘made-in-the-USA’ total look. In 2010 Brooks Brothers published a limited edition of True Prep, by Lisa Birnbach, the author of The Official Preppy Handbook in the early Eighties. Jackets are the leading items in the preppy wardrobe, in particular the dark blue blazer proposed in a wool version with gold buttons that reproduce in bas-relief the coat of arms of the British Royal Family. The double-breasted version comes in a comfortable fit and belongs to the Brooks Brothers Country Club Collection; the jacket, in the original American style of the brand, combines comfort and high quality materials (Loro Piana wools) and is perfectly suitable both for business and Club life.
The three-button version is ideal for less formal situations, comes in a regular fit and is proposed in various kinds of fabrics: from the classic dark blue woollen blazer (Brooks Brothers) to the lighter khaki or olive green jackets in seersucker and cotton poplin.
