Romano Abate

Uno spazio concertato

On 4 March 2011, at the Associazione Culturale Lazzari in Treviso, an art exhibition was inaugurated featuring sculptures by Romano Abate and paintings by Francesco Stefanini, curated and presented by the critic Marco Goldin. In addition to Goldin’s own contribution, a poem by Christian Sinicco and a video by Lino Vecchiato and Max Marzola were mixed with music by Giusto Pio, creating an engaging and eclectic atmosphere. Marco Goldin contrasted Stefanini’s paintings – obtained by “subtraction” – with Romano Abate’s sculptures, constructed by “addition” and overlapping of elements. Initially wary of Abate’s sculptural art, Goldin became passionate about his work in the months preceding the 1995 exhibition held at Palazzo Sarcinelli in Conegliano (Treviso), particularly struck by the “multiplication of reality” typical of Abate’s sculpture, which generates, in contrast, a profound “silence” in his works.

Apelle figlio di Apollo

“We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing” George Bernard Shaw An exhibition-event dedicated to the themes of synaesthesia, “Apelle figlio di Apollo” by Romano Abate transformed the Spazio Lazzari in Treviso into a sensory journey through fashion, art and design. Sculptures, installations, furniture- objects and photography interacted with the avant-garde garments and furnishings of the concept store, re-sacralising the body as a crossroads of touch, sight, smell and taste. With a playful and decidedly subversive approach, Abate has broken down the museum tradition by proposing a new way of experiencing and “wearing” art in a contemporary and very current way, 20 years after its inauguration in 2005.
