ONE OR TWO WHEELS?
Forse sarebbe il caso di dire “una ruota e mezzo” più che “due ruote” ma il risultato non cambia, la sfida è iniziata e la battaglia si combatte a colpi di elettricità e inerzia. Il Segway ci aveva già proiettato verso nuovi scenari della mobilità ma il recente lancio di Solowheel e dei nuovi modelli Yike Bike ci impone una riflessione di fronte al diffondersi di questi nuovi mezzi. Riusciranno a sostituire le due ruote della bicicletta? Se riusciranno ad affiancarla, quale fetta di mercato riusciranno a prendersi?
Maybe we should say “a wheel and a half” rather than “two wheels”, but the result is the same, the challenge has been faced, and a battle is being fought in terms of electricity and inertia. Segway had already projected us towards new horizons in transport, but the recent launching of Solowheel and of the new models Yike Bike makes us reflect on the widespread use of these new vehicles. Will they be able to supplant the two wheels of the bicycle? If they succeed in gaining as much ground, what slice of the market will they be able to win?
SOLOWHEEL
La Solowheel è un “unicycle” autobilanciato in grado di trasportarci per 12 miglia ad una velocità massima di 12 miglia all’ora, con ridottissime emissioni di CO2. La sua batteria al litio può essere ricaricata in soli 40-50 minuti. Con la sola inclinazione del corpo e la pressione delle gambe sui cuscini interni si può controllarla completamente.
Solowheel is a self-balanced “unicycle” that can carry us for twelve miles at a maximum speed of 12 miles per hour, with insignificant carbon dioxide exhausts. Its lithium battery can be charged in only 40-50 minutes. A vehicle that can be entirely controlled through the inclination of our body and by pressing our legs on the inside cushions.
YIKE BIKE FUSION
La Yike Bike Fusion è invece il modello destinato a sostituire l’originale Carbon Yike Bike in fibra di carbonio. Grazie alla piccola ruota posteriore essa è in grado di garantire maggiore stabilità al passeggero; è ripiegabile in pochi secondi e anche aperta occupa circa le metà dello spazio necessario ad una qualsiasi bicicletta elettrica. Raggiunge le 14 miglia orarie ed ha un autonomia di 6 miglia che può essere aumentata fino a 18 miglia grazie alle batterie aggiuntive. Dotata di luci a led e maniglie per sorreggersi, grazie ai suoi freni rigenerativi può garantire ottime capacità di frenata.
Yike Bike Fusion, instead, is the model which is bound to substitute the earlier carbon fibre Carbon Yite Bike. The small back wheel it is supplied with gives the passenger a better balance, it can be folded up in a matter of seconds, and when stretched out it takes half the space needed by any electric bicycle. Its maximum speed is 14 miles per hour with a range of six miles that can be increased to 18 miles thanks to additional batteries. Supplied with led lights and handles for support its regenerative brakes guarantee an excellent braking power.
