La Ginestra

La ginestra   è una fibra antica caratteristica del territorio calabrese. Un fiore, un prodotto tessile. L’aspetto è quello del lino e della seta cruda. La matericità nel tatto è estremamente morbida e fresca. La sua rivalutazione fa parte di un progetto che vede il coinvolgimento dello sviluppo sostenibile delle antiche tradizioni tessili della Calabria.
Per lo sviluppo di questa fibra sono stati coinvolti alcuni centri di ricerca per la sperimentazione dei processi biotecnologici per industrializzare la produzione della fibra. Le tinture delle fibre sono realizzate con pigmenti vegetali seguendo antiche tecniche locali per realizzare prodotti come lenzuola, asciugamani, cuscini, tende, camicie da notte, abiti da camera. I ricami su tali manufatti sono realizzati da mani esperte che ancora possiedono la conoscenza dell’arte del ricamo tradizionale.
Il ricamo inteso come quel filo sottile che colora la trama di tessuti e storie raccontate sulle superfici attraverso i motivi ornamentali.

The broom is an ancient plant typical of Calabria. It affords both a flower and a textile product. Its fibre looks like flax and raw silk, but feels like soft, fresh matter to the touch.
It is now being re-valued by a project for the sustainable development of Calabria’s ancient weaving traditions, and some research centres experimenting in the bio-technological processing of the fibre have been involved with a view to produce it on an industrial scale.
Broom fibres are dyed with vegetable pigments according to ancient local techniques and are woven to obtain sheets, towels, pillows, curtains, nighties and bedroom wear. The items are hand-embroidered by expert women who are well acquainted with this traditional art; a thin thread adds colour to the weft of fabrics and fills their surfaces with stories through its ornamental motifs.
