Il Victoria and Albert Museum a South Kensington, Londra, è il più grande museo al mondo di arti applicate e design. Fino a marzo 2006, la mostra Hearwear farà vedere come ricerche rivoluzionarie sugli strumenti di ascolto hanno potuto riflettersi in nuovi e sorprendenti oggetti, e illustrerà l’enorme potenziale che le aziende hanno per la loro produzione. Se la disponibilità di questi interessanti oggetti fosse generalizzata, non c’è dubbio che milioni di persone vorrebbero comprarli e usarli. Dal prossimo aprile 2006 una mostra importante esplorerà per la prima volta il Modernismo nel mondo del design da una prospettiva veramente internazionale. Vi saranno esposte opere di: Picabia, Mondrian, Léger, Balla, Le Corbusier, Mies Van Der Rohe e Man Ray. La mostra offrirà una nuova valutazione del concetto di Modernismo, e porterà alla definizione di un termine abusato e tuttavia mai veramente circoscritto. Il V & A Museum gestirà inoltre un’ampia gamma di eventi: laboratori, conferenze, sfilate e programmi speciali per giovani e studenti, che contribuiscono a mantenere vitale l’istituzione. Sulla passerella del Fashion in Motion hanno sfilato in passato nomi come: Gianfranco Ferré, Anne Valérie Hash, i diplomati del 2004 della Central Saint Martins, Vivienne Westwood e Missoni.
Il 28 aprile 2006, quattro sfilate celebreranno il sessantesimo anniversario dell’ultima casa britannica di haute couture, Hardy Amies.

“Discover 3000 years’ worth of amazing artefacts including ceramics, furniture, fashion, glass, jewellery, metalwork, photographs, sculpture, textiles and paintings”. London’s Victoria & Albert Museum, in South Kensington, is the world’s greatest museum of art and design. Until March 2006 the Hearwear display shows how revolutionary thinking about hearing could be reflected in exciting new products. It highlights the massive potential for industry to create innovative, stylish and desirable hearing products which, if they were available on the high street, millions of people would want to purchase and use.
From April a major exhibition will be the first to explore Modernism in the design world from a truly international perspective. Exhibits will include: Picabia, Mondrian, Léger, Balla, Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe and Man Ray. This exhibition will offer a fundamental reassessment of the idea of Modernism and, in doing so, offer a definition of this widely used but rarely defined term.
The V&A also runs a wide range of events from workshops and gallery talks to catwalk fashion shows and special programmes for students and young people. And that’s what keeps it alive!
Some of the past names on the catwalk of the Fashion in Motion series have included the likes of Gianfranco Ferré, Anne Valérie Hash, Central Saint Martins 2004 graduates, Vivienne Westwood and Missoni. On April 28th 2006 four shows will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the last great British Haute Couture house: Hardy Amies.
