Nemen 10th anniversary

Nemen – 10th anniversary

“CREATING NEW ARTISTIC EXPRESSION THROUGH FABRIC RESEARCH AND MAN/MACHINE HARMONIC INTERACTION”

Created in Italy, Nemen found its approach at the intersection between technical research and artistic expression, manifested through its garments.
The Nemen 10th anniversary’s project journeys from java to Java. Exploring algorithmic pattern creation expressed through advanced print and knit technologies.
The java story begins with the artist Leafcutter John, who generates patterns with java code using various algorithms run through the program max/ msp. To breath life into these digital renders, John then mechanically plots them onto paper. The varying physical attributes of the pens and paper used, give a unique expression to each line and the algorithm never repeats itself, resulting in an array of ever evolving patterns used throughout the Nemen® collection.
